This course is like a middle child, because it happened in between an 8:30 morning class and a 1pm class, there was never enough time fore previewing course materials, and I NEVER was able to keep up with the current lecture notes and therefore suffered so much with the assignments, i straight up gave up the assignments later in the term.

The lecture notes and the 1hr office hour the day before midterm.

Less assignment grade percentage, maybe have two midterms throughout the course because of the material we have covered throughout the term really jumped from 1 to 10. Maybe have tutorials that does problem solving sessions for those computational problems that requires coding, because there are NONE.

Greg Wang has done an amazing job with this course! He has spiked my interest in computational mathematics and has reassured me that pursuing it as my major is the right decision. As for changes, I would say to reduce the number of questions in assignments and exams slightly as it can be overwhelming. I found that I did not have enough time to complete all the questions on the midterm and check my answers in the end. Additionally, the assignments would take a large amount of time to the point I would have to delay doing other courses to complete the assignments. However, I would like to also point out that the office hours, Greg's and the TA's, were extremely helpful and helped solidify many concepts. Greg is extremely helpful and open to offering help whenever needed, let that be after class or on Piazza. I would hardly ever have to wait for my questions to be answered.

Some of the topics felt very slow. I think that if some of the easier concepts like binary numbers was covered faster, then more interesting topics could be covered. It seems like there are a lot of interesting things to do in this field.
Also a lot of the assignment and exam questions felt like regurgitating results from class and just coding up pseudocode that we were completely given. Maybe some assignment questions that are more open ended would be fun.

Greg's lectures are really good and the lecture notes are also very clear and organized. Plus the course staff is very responsive in Piazza.

I really liked the course, but however I felt like it would have been nice to have more coding components in assignments. I feel like there are lots of interesting things you can do with numerical linear algebra and it would have been nice to do some more things like that in assignments. Also a final project might be a good idea as well as then we could have worked on small numerical projects.

Floating point systems helped me with another course that also covers it. Learning numpy was great considering I've never touched in the 2+ years I used python.

Really friendly and helpful prof, I don't think I'd be doing this well with another prof. Office hours, I appreciate that they're frequent and available right before an exam or assignment due date. Posting notes online is really helpful. Practice exams helped build confidence going into exams.
Suggested changes
Remove 1 question from all assignments, they can even be added to an exam practice set. Or make the time to do them shorter with less questions (~9 days seems comfortable as opposed to 2+ weeks). Split the one time extension into 12/24 hr extensions so they can be used on multiple assignments. More exam practice is always nice. I prefer 3 short lectures a week as opposed to 2 long ones.

- The instructor -> 10/10, favorite instructor this entire term, definitely top 5 that I have ever had. The fact that we could ask questions after class was very helpful and fostered a comfortable learning environment.
- The Piazza discussion board -> another 10/10, never in my life have I seen such helpful, straightforward, and in-depth responses by an instructor. I had no idea that was even possible. The Piazza was invaluable to me when completing assignments and preparing for the midterm. As far as I noticed, the responses were prompt and very well thought out and actually helped to clarify things instead of confusing us more.

Maybe it would be a bit better if it were a class that happened 3 times a week for 50 minutes each, rather than twice a week for 80 minutes. The 5 day gap between a Wednesday class and the next Monday class isn't super conducive to keeping an active focus on the material and not forgetting it.
Also, it's sort of hard to pay attention for 80 minutes straight, through the instructor did a great job of being engaging, so it worked out. I just would have liked to have had this class more often because I really looked forward to it.
I do think that the assignment questions are sometimes a bit unclear on what exactly we are supposed to do/hand in, so it might be good to add a bit more clarification on exactly what is expected to be produced if these assignments are used again in the future. However, this wasn't a huge problem because, as mentioned above, the instructor was super good at answering questions.

Professor Wang did a fantastic job teaching this course. His lectures were very detailed, and he was always quick to acknowledge when he made an error. He provided informative updates every week on what we should expect. His assignments were good at going over relevant concepts each week, and the combination of both theoretical and computational problems allowed me to see a lot of the concepts talked about in lecture in practice. He was very helpful on Piazza, being very quick to provide extremely detailed responses to every question. He provided good practice for the midterm, which allowed me to understand major concepts and study well. Overall, I think Professor Wang is one of, if not the best professors I've had the opportunity to learn from in my time at Waterloo, and I think he deserves a lot of praise for doing a fantastic job running the course this semester.

Numerical methods in doing a bunch of neat things, including number systems representations, inaccuracies in rounding, solving systems of equations, interpolation, and signal analysis, the latter of which is the most important to me personally

The nicely written course notes (although some claim to be unable to read the cursive that Prof. Wang writes in, since they copy down the notes in class, they must appreciate his style), Prof Wang's questions to class, which prompts constant engagement (as best as can be afforded, anyways) and his frequent asides to applications of the material and relationships of the current subject to other courses or topics.
Suggested changes
Make it less boring. Not the Prof's mistake, but kinda the course's, although the choice of material in the course is a good choice. Also, please give us the opportunity for us to apply the material to do something fun (Iike the denoising of the sound file in the last assignment) and also to utilize the proof methods we learn in class towards something that can be applied as well!

One of the most important things I learned was the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT). Greg's in-depth explanations and practical examples made it easier to understand its significance and applications. Additionally, other crucial topics like matrix factorizations, iterative methods for solving linear systems, and eigenvalue algorithms are also interesting.

In this course, Greg has helped me the most for my learning. After each lecture, he was always willing to address numerous questions, ensuring every concept was clear. When we have exam in other course conflicts with the class time, he is willing to record the lecture so that we don't miss any important concept. Also, I have never seen an instructor response on email and Piazza that fast, while providing clear and detailed answers at the same time.

Introduction to Fourier Analysis (we are still discussing Fast Fourier Transform).

Matlab/Numpy programming was made very accessible with the tutorials and explanations on how to import files, etc. This saved me some time worrying about logistical issues on the assignments. Professor Wang is a good lecturer and clearly passionate and knowledgeable in his area.

What helped me learn
Professor Wang was truly made such an outstanding effort to ensure his students understand the material. He is a very engaging instructor and makes the CS 371 content applicable to real-world scenarios. In addition, I have seen him on numerous occasion answer students questions after class and he has been incredibly helpful in office hours even extending the time of his office hours to stay and help students if they needed it. He’d also stay up late responding to Piazza questions even on weekends. He has personally helped me understand questions or concepts that I was struggling with. I’m grateful to have had Professor Wang this term, his commitment to helping all his students learn was truly heartwarming and commendable. Thank you so much Professor Wang!

The instructors teaching style was really great. I am an auditory learner so the best thing for me is to sit and listen. Greg Wang did a good job of explaining the concepts not necessarily in linear fashion, but in logical thought patterns. Sometimes two things were introduced side by side for contrast instead of just one after another or subjects were introduced in certain contexts so that students could legitemately understand the thought patterns behind the learning. Probably the overall learning concepts and content. Everything up to a point was truthfully a more so high school calc review. However, the newer content near the end of the course with intriguing. It also blended well together as each new learning concept connected to the last one and vice versa.

Then thing I would change is more pointing towards the online aspect of the course. But are some of the course EOL's on mobius, I found that a lot of them weren't necessarily helpful for the assessments throughout. They defiantly gave a groundwork to build off of however they didn't really give a really good understanding.

The Mobius lessons were great at explaining the content and most of the time the professor was too in the lectures.
